Linear Interpolation, also called Straight-Line Interpolation, is a method of approximating an unknown value on a curve which lies between two known points. It does this by assuming we have a straight line between the known points and calculating the position of the unknown point along that line. As long as the known points are relatively close together, the interpolated result will be reasonably close to the actual value.
As a refrigeration tech, system designer or an engineer, whenever you need to select a compressor from a manufacturer performance sheet or technical catalog page, you will often face a situation where you need to get the capacity of the compressor or condensing unit for operating condition in between those listed. This is when you will need to interpolate between the known capacity points to arrive at a capacity at the conditions you matching those of your project.
